Pastor
Pastor Michael grew up in Kansas, so it’s no surprise that his favorite childhood film was The Wizard of Oz.
Like Dorothy, he traveled far from home—to Washington D.C. for college and life as a high school teacher, to Rome for theological studies, and to Memphis, Tennessee, where he joined the United Church of Christ and worked as a professor of English at Christian Brothers University, as well as a writer.
Along with his spouse Steve Klinkerman, he was also a creator and leader of Pilgrim House, an intentional residential community in Memphis, which practiced simple living and offered shelter to people in need.
He was ordained as a minister of the United Church of Christ after receiving his Master’s of Divinity Degree at Memphis Theological Seminary. He has served joyfully as pastor of College Avenue since 2006, with ministerial standing in the Northern California Nevada Conference of the UCC.
