Dear College Avenue Friends,
What a painful, emotional Church Council meeting last Sunday.
For me, it was a wake-up call to my own limitations and mistakes as we consider budget decisions. But it was also an opportunity to hear passionate personal testimonies about the impact of our Student Ministries Program and its Director Rob Brittain in the lives of our young people and their families, as well as in the life of the whole congregation.
And it was also an opportunity for our church leadership to reassure the congregation that both the Student Ministries Program and Rob’s position are intact. We’ve got our work cut out for us as a congregation. We need to continue listening to one another. And we need to work together in carrying out our ministries and in creating a budget to finance them.
We can do it! But let’s start by celebrating Christmas as a family of faith. We’ll light candles together on Christmas Eve and share Communion on Christmas morning. To express our faith that we’ll find all the light and nourishment we need at the manger of Bethlehem.
