Sunday Potluck

We will celebrate the gifts of our people on Sunday, July 28.

We had a wonderful response to our questionnaire about what we like to do–what our gifts are.  We will celebrate those who filled out a form and those who are currently faithfully minister to our congregation and community.

Please plan to join us.  Bring a dish–anything–that we can share.  We have two persons who have volunteered to clean up, and this is a great opportunity for those who said they would love to help,  to sign up for helping set up and serve.

If you are one of those people, please contact Charlotte Pizzo.

A Mentoring Opportunity

College Avenue Mentors-in-Action is a mentoring program pairing Modesto High students with adult volunteers.  A minimum of four hours a month and a one-year commitment will help a Modesto High teen achieve his/her potential in school and in life.

Most students are recruited from Modesto High’s AVID (Achievement via Individual Determination) program that attracts primarily first generation and financially disadvantaged youth with academic potential.

Mentors-in-Action is approaching its seventh year of providing one-on-one mentoring to interested students.  Recent group events include the following: a visit with Mayor Marsh in his conference room and office, a tour of Cal State Stanislaus, and free or reduced price tickets to performances at the Gallo Arts Center.

A half-day training will be held Saturday, July 20,  from 9:00 to 12:30.  For more information or to sign up, please call or email Sharon Froba, 521-7265 or sfroba@comcast.net.

“Circle of Connections” Gatherings

“Circle of Connections” Gatherings will be held twice a month in Fellowship Hall after worship and will invite people to get acquainted and connected with a variety of others by sharing brief personal stories on specific topics that will vary each time.  These will be open to first-time visitors as well as new and long time members and child care will be provided. The dates are: July 7,  July 21,  August 4,  August 18,  Sept 1,  and Sept. 8.
