Youth Ministry

Youth Group
For grades 7th – 12th
First Sundays, 11:30am

Justice Themes
The goal of the youth program is to get youth outside of their experiences through observation, exposure, service, and advocacy.

The program is built around two experiences each month exploring relevant justice issues like “Homelessness and Poverty,” “Earth Stewardship,” and “Gender Inequality.”

One experience takes place at the church after Sunday worship involving lunch, an applicable movie or lesson, and topical conversation.

The second takes place away from the church campus and connects youth to other youth who are making a difference in the area/theme for that month. Some potential experiences could be participating in an ocean cleanup, a visit to a migrant farm workers’ camp, and a service/learning trip to the Mexican border at San Ysidro.

Youth Video Documentaries
Youth also participate in documenting their monthly service/learning experiences with video production. Youth who are interested do the filming, recording, and editing to create monthly mini-documentaries to be posted online and shared with the congregation.

Youth Community-building
A core component of the youth program has always been community-building—fostering the deepening of relationships between youth and their peers and caring adult volunteers. More than anything, adolescents want to belong, and the program continues to offer opportunities to do just that. Laser-tag, a lock-in overnight event, and movie nights will happen throughout the year.
